House candidate filings steaming along ............ and a record set!

Well the 50 State Page - http://www.barrywelsh.org/fiftystate/ind ex.html
has still not been updated (Barry and the gang are majorly busy) so here's my latest attempt to fill the gap.

And it's great news..................

According to Chris Bowers over at MyDD - http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/4/4/17162 2/3479 -
the recent record for the number of districts contested since 1992 is 403 (in 2004 we ran in 396).

403 is the key number remember that.

The 50 State page has us at 39 races remaining ie. 396 races filled. Of course that is now 3 weeks out of date. The correct number according to their strict criteria for inclusion (actual filing or active web site) is 33 as follows:

+1 : Diane Lee Lawrence has withdrawn in FL 25.

-7 : Races confirmed as filled:

AR 3 - WOODROW ANDERSON
 http://www.arelections.org/index.php?ac: show:cand_search=1&candid=15209

IA 2 - DAVE LOEBSACK
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/3/21/ 7124/31251
http://www.loebsackforcongress.org/

NY 13 - STEVE HARRISON
http://www.harrison06.com/

NY 26 - JACK DAVIS
http://www.jackdavis.org/index.asp

SC 2 - MICHAEL ELLISOR
http://www.scdp.org/blog.php

TN 2 - ROBERT SCOTT
http://knoxcounty.org/election/pdfs/pick up_petitions_state.swf

VA 7 - MARTIN DUDZIAK
http://www.votemartin.org/

Robert Scott in TN 2 has filed with Knox county and should be on the ballot if he has the correct number of signatures blah blah blah. Full slate for Tennessee - Hooray.

So 33 Races remaining or 402 contested.

But of course there are more races that we can confidently say are filled. Why? Because the candidate has said "I am running" or the press have quoted press releases that say they are running. That group are as follows:

AL 1 - VIVIAN BECKERLE

Changed his mind again to run.

That's six more candidates so 27 races to go SO WE ARE CONTESTING 408 CONGRESSIONAL RACES!!! That's the best we have done since at least 1992.

That is a fantastic achievement and deserving of a write up by Bloggers who are much more important and high profile than me.

408 races done and more to come.

And there are only 3 races where there definitely won't be a Democrat on the ballot in November.
CA 42 - http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/image s/pdf/congdist/ca42_109.pdf
MS 3 - http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/image s/pdf/congdist/MS03_109.pdf
TX 11 - http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/image s/pdf/congdist/TX11_109.pdf

To round out this diary here is what I know about the last 24 uncontested (at this stage) races:

Alabama
Poliscizac is confident that we will more of the uncontested races in Alabama before filing closes on Thursday: http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2006/4/ 4/215252/7594/11#11

FL 7
Fighting Dem John (Jack) Chagnon is supposed to be running but hasn't filed and has been ominously quiet for months.

LA 7
There was mention of a candidate here but I think not.

MN 3
Wendy Wilde (of Air America fame) is considering a run.

There was/is also somebody called Roland Low sniffing around also: http://sd63.blogspot.com/2006/02/chances -are-low.html

And Kossack reade may know someone too: http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2006/4/ 3/92058/50815/6#6

NJ 2
I think State Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew is considering a run -

PA 9 & 15
PA 9 - http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/image s/pdf/congdist/PA09_109.pdf
PA 15 - http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/image s/pdf/congdist/PA15_109.pdf

1000 write in votes in the primary and a candidate can appear on the ballot:
http://www.nj.com/news/expresstimes/pa/i ndex.ssf?/base/news-5/1143785180171130.x ml&coll=2

As confirmed by Kossack hillaryk (who lives in the 15th) - http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2006/4/ 3/92058/50815/3#3
Note also in the comments that a nominating convention can be held also!

Local Democrats are trying to convince Charles Dertinger to run in the 15th :

Herseth (none / 0)

Democrat Stephanie Herseth drew a GOP challenger in South Dakota this morning in Bruce Whalen.  Whalen is a Lakota Sioux and GOP county chair for the Pine Ridge Indian reservation.  That's an area that votes 10-1 for Democrats.  A very weak challenger, I think.

Great news for Tennessee.

PA-15 (none / 0)

Here's an article from last week about the problem of finding a candidate in PA-15, from the Morning Call.

I know nothing about Dertinger, but I still say Dent could be tied to Bush and sunk by Nov.

More MN-03 (none / 0)

According to a Minnesota blog, Veteran Tommy Johnson has filed to challenge Ramstad. I had heard about this for a while now, but nobody can find anything about him. Not sure if he is viable.  If  Wendy Wilde jumps in we could go from uncontested seat to Democratic primary's.
